KUCHING, Oct 27: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng has suspended the memberships of PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad and information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid today.
He said the suspension is in relation to the party’s Supreme Council meeting held on Oct 7, which was not sanctioned by him as the party president.
The decision is in accordance with Article 60 (iii) of the party constitution, which stated “where the President thinks that immediate suspension is necessary for the interest of the Party, the President may suspend a member pending the action of the Disciplinary Committee”.
“The meeting was conducted at the same time as the Budget (2023) speech (tabling) by the prime minister and I was only informed of the outcome after it was held.
“The decision of the meeting was said to have appointed (president-designate) Datuk Zuraida Kamarudin as president, when in fact the position was never vacant,” Sng said in a statement today.
Condemning such action as political maneuvering, he said the incident has undermined the trust of his leadership and caused confusion among party members and the general public.
He added that Nor Hizwan and Zakaria’s positions would be suspended until a disciplinary committee is set up to look into the matter after the 15th general election (GE15).
“In the meantime, the function of the secretary-general shall be undertaken by the deputy secretary-general Jenny Chiew,” he said.
Sng, who is also Julau incumbent, has reiterated that he has never relinquished his position or resigned as PBM president. — DayakDaily
