Snatch thief jailed three months for stealing handbag

KUCHING, July 25: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a man to 3 months’ imprisonment for stealing a woman’s handbag at a petrol station.

Amil Yet, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 7 years, or fine, or both, upon conviction.


Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azuran Wan Ali convicted him as charged and sentenced him to 3 months’ jail, with effect from the date of arrest, which is July 18.

The accused was charged with snatching the 31-year-old woman’s handbag at a petrol station in Jalan Song, at about 7.20pm on July 15, 2022.

According to the brief facts of the case, the victim wanted to refuel her motorcycle, and while she was paying at the counter, the accused suddenly appeared on a motorcycle and absconded with her bag which was in the front basket of her motorcycle.

The accused’s face and act was captured by CCTV.

Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
