KUCHING, Oct 30: SMK Wira Penrissen, SMK Sg Tapang and SK Wira Jaya under the Samarahan District Education Office will be closed for 11 days starting from Nov 2 to 13.

State Disaster Management Committee (SMDC), in a statement today, announced that the school closure order for Covid-19 red zone area of Kuching has been extended to the three schools.

SDMC said that they made the decision after a meeting today with the State Education Department.

This was in line with the Ministry of Education (MOE)’s announcement regarding the closure of education institutions in the red zone area of Kuching.

Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases and emergence of new clusters in Kuching in the past week, MOE had yesterday (Oct 29) instructed all schools in Kuching to be closed for two weeks until Nov 13.

The closure involved a total of 209 primary and secondary schools including with boarding facility under the MOE as well as Teachers Education Institutes (IPGs), matriculation colleges and private schools.

Following the announcement, the state government also decided to have all tuition centres, kindergartens and nurseries closed for the next two weeks. — DayakDaily
