SMK Tebakang receives RM3 mln towards upgrading student hostel

SERIAN, July 11: More than RM3 million has been set aside to improve the students hostel in SMK Tebakang.

The improvement will also see the increase of beds from 150 to 200.


Second Deputy Minister of Finance Mohd Shahar Abdullah said the tender for the project will be issued very soon.

“For the improvement of the students hostel in SMK Tebakang, the tender for the project will be issued very soon and will take about eight months to complete.

“And I must congratulate the state Public Works Department (JKR) for increasing the capacity in view of the increasing number of students,” he told a press conference today after making a site visit to the school.

For a record, SMK Tebakang, which started operation in 1974 has more than 1,000 students.

He also told reporters that a RM700 million allocation has been set aside to either build or repair dilapidated schools on the state listed under 1B.

He also said that the state Education Department will provide the list of dilapidated schools under Phase III to be submitted to the state government for verification, before the list is forwarded to the Education Ministry and JKR.

“For phase III of dilapidated school repair in Sarawak, the state Education Department will expedite in providing the list of schools (dilapidated) before the list is given to the state government to verify.

“After that the list will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and thereafter to JKR for evaluation based on site inspection, and that is the flow of the job,” he said.

He said the list will be available end of this month or early next month, and hoped that the repair work can also be included under B1, and together could be completed end of next year.—DayakDaily
