BETONG, July 11: Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has called for support and cooperation from the state government, leaders and the local community in educating and shaping youths with potential to become successful future leaders.

He said, as such the Sarawak Youth Tour 2020 (Jelajah Belia Sarawak) aims to encourage the participation of youth and youth associations in healthy activities and provide them with opportunities to showcase their talents and potentials.

Abdul Karim said this when officiating at the Sarawak Youth Tour 2020 programme in Betong with 200 specially invited local youths who had strictly adhered to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) approved by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The programme has been postponed for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The state government through the Sarawak Ministry of Youth and Sports has organised this programme especially for local youths throughout the divisions to foster understanding among them on the various youth development programmes being implemented,” he said.

He added the programme was able to inculcate the spirit of accountability, leadership and volunteerism among the young people in Sarawak which were vital in shaping the youth to become successful leaders.

The activities held in conjunction with the programme in Betong were the “Townhall with Leaders” session, ice breaking session and a motivational talk by Sarawak Youth Icon 2019 Ahmad Qadri Basri. —DayakDaily
