SMC reminds residents to follow MCO to avoid falling into the red zone

SIBU, Mar 31: Sibu residents are reminded to continue adhering strictly to the Movement Control Order so that the town will not drop from yellow to red in the Covid-19 classification.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Councillor Clarence Ting gave this advice from the sidelines of work disinfecting and sanitising the central market today, lamenting that he had seen a lot of cars around town yesterday.

“I hope the public will continue to abide to the MCO by only coming out when they really need to. Yesterday, I went to town and maybe it was because of payday that I saw a lot of cars,” he said.

Ting said for the past two weeks, the town had been steadily in the yellow zone as the residents had been abiding to the MCO.

“This shows that the government had done the right thing by enforcing the MCO but don’t break it or else we could fall into red zone,” he warned.

Ting wanted the people to continue staying at home for another two weeks until April 14.

On the spraying disinfectant and sanitising of the central market, he said it was a joint effort between the council and Bomba.

“SMC is doing it inside the building using our three units of spraying machine while Bomba helps us to do the outside. We are doing this because we want the public to feel secure and confident when they use our facilities,” he said.

He added that the council would do the same for the other nine markets in its jurisdiction. —DayakDaily
