SIBU, July 28: SMC has begun enforcing stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) at Sibu Central Market to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Amongst others, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has beefed up both manual and QR registration measures at five entry points of the said market.
Its Market and Petty Trader Committee chairman Cr Albert Tiang revealed today that other markets at residential areas under the council’s jurisdiction will follow suit starting tomorrow.
“We had this registration during the first two week of Conditional MCO but stopped it due to the long queue of people. Only temperature scanning was done on visitors then. But with the second wave of Covid-19 cases in the state, we have decided to reimplement the registration,” he added, explaining that this is to ensure that all its markets are safe for visitors.
“Should there be any cases, we will be able to trace the visitors. Also when there are cases, we will immediately impose a closure of the market,” he revealed.
Visitors to Sibu Central Market will now have to register either using QR code (MySejahtera app) or manual registration with particulars such as name, contact number and body temperature noted down.
Only individuals wearing face masks will be allowed to enter. Children below the age of 13 are strictly prohibited from entering the market while senior citizens are allowed provided they adhere to SOPs.
Meanwhile, Tiang disclosed that individual stalls at the Taman Muhibbah and Taman Harmoni food courts will conduct temperature checking and registration of their customers instead of relying on a single central registration point. — DayakDaily
