KUCHING, July 29: The old school block of SK St Alban Sungai Tapang, a mission school established some 65 years ago, is in a dangerous state of disrepair today.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak member Michael Kong pointed out that the condition of the primary school, especially the old school block, is not only “unsightly” but poses a danger to students and teachers as part of the roof could crumble anytime.

“Recently, Unifor (Unit for Other Religions) has allocated some funding to SK St Alban Sungai Tapang for construction of new classrooms.

“However, it is worth noting that the funds allocated by Unifor cannot be used for repair or renovation of the dilapidated classrooms. It must be used for construction of new classrooms,” he said in a statement today.

Kong, who is also special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, added that the school principal has sought assistance from DAP Stampin.

“We will write to the Ministry of Education to explore what can be done for this poor school,” he gave assurance.

Kong also represented Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to hand over a cheque of RM20,000 to the school.

“For the past several years, elected representatives from Pakatan Harapan (PH) were granted allocations and we have consistently assigned the bulk of allocation from P196 Stampin Service Centre to schools for the benefit of our young children,” he added. — DayakDaily
