Six detained for Sungai Niah floating half-body murder case

MIRI, Aug 16:  A sub-contractor with five other local men have been detained by the police in connection with Sungai Niah half-body murder case.

Two of the six suspects reported themselves to the police while the remainder four were picked up in various location in Luak (Bakam) and Tudan during an operation between 2pm to 7pm yesterday (Aug 15).


The six suspects, aged between 23 to 46, were brought to the Magistrate Court here this morning for remand application.

The suspects are being escorted off to Magistrate Court complex from Miri Central Police station (CPS) for remand application this morning.  

The case’s investigation officer, Inspector Joyce Sigai applied for seven-day remand and was granted by Magistrate Mohd Syafique Mohd Hilmie.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Meanwhile, a DNA test which was conducted on the half body found floating in Sungai Niah has positively confirmed on Aug 2 the identity of the victim, George Tan Kee Luang, 60 

The late Tan was reported missing by his family on June 29.  The lower half of his body was found floating in Sungai Niah at 1.30 pm on July 2 by two crab hunters who instantly alerted the police. — DayakDaily
