Man sentenced to death for murder of pepper businessman

KUCHING, July 24: The High Court here convicted and sentenced a man, who killed a pepper businessman in 2016, to death.

High Court Judge Celestina Stuel Galid found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him as charged.

Chong Fook Fatt was charged for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Fook Fatt was accused of killing Ching Siew Kong at Kampung Jugan in Bau on June 21, 2016.


Fook Fatt was charged together with his brother, Fook Loi. Fook Fatt was charged with murdering Ching while Chong Fook Loi was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code for abetting in the murder.

Fook Loi was discharged and acquitted on July 19, 2018.

Ching was shot in the head and died of his injuries at Sarawak General Hospital.
