Man claims trial to fatally stabbing friend

KUCHING, July 3: A man who stabbed his friend to death claimed trial at High Court here today.

The man surnamed Ling, 26, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge framed.

High Court Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli fixed trial to be from November 2 to 11, 2020.

He allegedly stabbed the 21-year-old victim in front of the house of the victim’s girlfriend, located at Green Gate, Jalan Stephen Yong.

The police arrested him on November 15.

The victim, Bong Wei Liang, died in Sarawak General Hospital Intensive Care Unit at about 1.12am on November 16.

Before the stabbing, the accused and the victim were quarreling. The accused had a previous relationship with the victim’s girlfriend and wanted to reconcile with her.

Three of them were drinking at a restaurant before the incident happened, and they were believed to be drunk at the time of the incident.

During the incident, the victim punched the accused, and the accused grabbed a vegetable knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim in the left rib.
