SIBU, Jan 16: With Chinese New Year (CNY) just around the corner, people have been urged to get their second Covid-19 booster dose.
According to Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng, although there are no specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the upcoming CNY, people will visit each other, thus opening themselves up to more physical contact.
He also advised those with comorbidities such as high blood pressure and diabetes to be vaccinated for their protection.
“I advise the public to wear face masks when in crowded areas, including observing other basic SOPs such as social distancing,” he said at a vaccination programme for civil servants at Sibu Islamic Complex today.
Meanwhile, he said the response from the public for the second booster dose has not been very encouraging.
“Maybe the people feel that the Covid-19 situation now is not as serious as before. Hospital admissions are also getting fewer, and it is mostly patients in Categories 3 and 4 that need assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the health department would launch its mobile vaccination service to get people to receive the second booster dose.
“They will also be going to Wisma Sanyan and Federal Complex for the convenience of the public and civil servants to get their second booster dose,” he said.
