Sibu to host Third Edition of Sarawak Sports Festival (Suksar III) from Jan 15-8

SIBU, Jan 11: Sibu to host Third Edition of Sarawak Sports Festival (Suksar III) from Jan 15 to 8.

A total of 1108 athletes from four zones in Sarawak will converge in Sibu to compete in 13 sporting categories for a total of 635 medals during the three days event.

According to a news report of Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Resident of Sibu Division Datu Wong Hee Sieng said the preparations for the event have been going smoothly, including the sports village located in Desa Sanyan, which consist of four blocks and 256 rooms.


He said that the opening ceremony on Jan 15 at Sibu Indoor Stadium will be officiated by Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah while the closing ceremony on Jan 18 will be graced by Premier Datuk Patinggin Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He added that the objectives of Suksar is to provide exposure and competitive platforms for the athletes who have yet to take part in the Malaysian Games (Sukma) as well as to nurture talents among Sarawakian athletes with the hope that they may represent Sarawak in future Sukma events.

The list of sporting events and its revenues are weightlifting (Dewan Melayu Melanau Sibu), cycling (Sibu Jaya – Jalan Julau and Taman Jubli Bukit Aup), volleyball (Dewan Bola Tampar, Rejang Park Sibu), basketball (Gelanggang Bola Keranjang K.R.T Sg. Antu, Sibu), futsal (Gelanggang Futsal Kampung Nangka, Sibu), hockey (Sibu Indoor Stadium, Bukit Lima, Sibu), judo and Karate (Azman Hashim Community Sports Center, Sibu Jaya), pencak silat (MUC Malay Club Hall, Kampung Nyabor, Sibu), sepak takraw (Volleyball Hall, Kampung Bandong, Sibu), taekwondo and boxing (Sibu Indoor Stadium), wushu (Wong Nai Siong School, Sibu). – DayakDaily
