KUCHING, Jan 28: Sibu confirmed yet another Covid-19 death while 171 new infections were recorded in Sarawak with 77 cases added to Pasai Cluster, seven to Rakut Cluster and four to Indah Riang Cluster today.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, revealed that with one more fatality, this pushed the Covid-19 death toll in the State to 35.
The deceased, Case 35, was a 79-year-old local woman who had received treatment at Sibu Hospital on Jan 13 after experiencing bouts of fever and her rT-PCR result was positive.
The health of the patient, who was comorbid with hypertension and dementia, deteriorated before she passed away on Jan 27.
SDMC extended their deepest condolences to the family of the victim.
Of the 171 new Covid-19 cases, SDMC informed that Sibu continued to record the highest number of cases at 77 followed by Miri (43), Dalat (25), Bintulu (12), Kuching (10), Betong (2) and one each in Kapit and Lundu.
This increased the state tally of positive cases to 3,945.
Of the 77 cases in Sibu, 43 cases were linked to Pasai Cluster while 14 cases were detected from active contact screening to positive cases, 11 cases were from community screening, six cases involved healthcare workers, two cases with symptoms screened at private healthcare facilities and one case was detected from pre-surgery screening.
In Miri, out of the 43 cases, 20 cases were detected from active contact screening, 12 cases linked to Pasai Cluster, six cases linked to Rakut Cluster, three cases involved healthcare workers and two cases through other Covid-19 screenings at healthcare facilities.
Dalat recorded 25 cases of which 13 cases were linked to Pasai Cluster, 10 cases were detected from active contact screening and two cases from community screening which have been categorised as imported cases from Miri.
Of the 12 cases in Bintulu, one case each were linked to Pasai and Rakut clusters while 10 cases were detected from community screening at Sg Plan, RPR Bandaria and Kidurong.
As for the 10 cases reported in Kuching, four cases were linked to Indah Riang Cluster, two cases were detected from active contact screening which have been categorised as imported from Sibu, one case linked to Pasai Cluster, one case was symptomatic screening at private hospital which was categorised as imported from a workplace in Samarahan, one case from symptomatic screening at public health clinic and one case involved a returnee from Lubnan.
For the two cases in Betong and one case in Kapit, all three cases were linked to Pasai Cluster.
Lundu’s sole case was detected from symptomatic screening at a private healthcare facility and the case was a close contact to a positive case from Pasai Cluster. — DayakDaily
