Sibu police searching for woman who allegedly hurt boyfriend with meat cleaver

SIBU, Oct 7: The police are hunting for a woman believed to be on the run after she allegedly injured her widower boyfriend with a meat cleaver.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 32-year-old complainant who is a lorry driver of a company involved with the Bakun Hydro Dam, Belaga had returned to Sibu for a week’s rest.

He had known the 30-year suspect for 11 months.

ACP Stanley said the duo together with others had on October 5, been involved in a drinking session at the woman’s rented flat in Sibu Jaya.

“At about 7.30pm that night, both wanted to go out for dinner. The suspect asked her neighbour to send them, but the complainant told her not to trouble them,” he said.

A quarrel ensued between both of them. The suspect who was then drunk, went amok and smashed glass items in the house.

“The complainant ran out so as to cool things down. However when he came back in half-an-hour later, the suspect took a meat cleaver and threw it at him,” he said.

He suffered a cut to his forehead and received nine stitches at the hospital.

The case is investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. — DayakDaily
