Sibu police arrest two repeat drug offenders, seize 6.50gm of drugs

SIBU, Aug 20: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Sibu Division police team arrested a couple on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse activities yesterday.

According to Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, the 34-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were arrested after the police team stopped their four-wheel-drive pickup at 12.10pm at Jalan Oya.

“The team found a transparent plastic package containing a lump of crystalline crystal suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 6.50 grammes placed inside the steering wheel compartment of the driver,” he revealed.


The couple were later taken back to the Sungai Merah Police Station for further action.

“The arrests were made under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” Stanley added.

It is understood that both suspects have past criminal records related to drug abuse. Both suspects, who are also locals, will be remanded to assist in further investigations. — DayakDaily
