KUCHING, July 21: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), through the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), has seized various types of drugs and poisons worth RM64 million from January 1 to July 12 this year—an increase from RM11 million last year.
“This increase reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations and more aggressive and organised enforcement actions,” said Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Saifullizan Ishak, at the Sarawak Police Commissioners’ Monthly Assembly for July 2026 here today, as reported by TVS.
Additionally, he said that 8,460 arrests were recorded during the same period, an increase of 32.7 per cent compared to 6,375 arrests in the same period last year.
“Of the total, various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 were detected, and action was taken, including cases involving the supply, possession, and abuse of drugs.
“During the same period, a total of 429 drug dealers were arrested as a result of continuous enforcement actions,” he said.
He said preventive actions under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 also showed an increase when 18 arrests were recorded compared to 11 arrests in the previous year, an increase of 63.6 per cent.
He said the increase in the number of arrests and the value of drug seizures proved the Sarawak police’s continued determination and commitment in combating drug abuse in the State. — DayakDaily
