KUCHING, July 20: A pregnant woman and a minor were among the 49 individuals who tested positive for drugs during an operation conducted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Bintulu across several drug hotspot locations in the area on Friday (July 17).
In a statement, the areas that were focused on in the operation include Jalan Bintulu-Sibu, Kampung Dato, Kampung Baru, the Bukit Nyabau squatter settlement, Kampung Jepak, the workers’ quarters at Jalan Bintulu–Miri, PPR Bandaria Park, and Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10.
A total of 16 AADK personnel, comprising four officers and 12 enforcement members, participated in the operation.
According to the agency, the operation aimed to detect new and repeated drug abuse cases, address complaints lodged by families and the public, and strengthen enforcement and detection efforts in high-risk communities.
Throughout the operation, 49 individuals underwent urine tests, with all found to be positive for drugs.
Breaking it down, 40 tested positive for methamphetamine (syabu), eight for ketum, and one for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC or marijuana).
All individuals who tested positive have been processed in accordance with the relevant legal provisions and are undergoing assessments to determine the most suitable treatment and rehabilitation pathways.
“The agency will continue to intensify detection, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts to curb drug abuse to ensure the community’s well-being and safety,” it said.
