SIBU, Dec 8: Six suspected members of Geng Apoi Sungai Merah are now in police custody following a raid on Dec 6 on a house in Jalan Wawasan here.
Police also seized an assortment of drugs worth RM76,556, a vehicle worth RM70,000 and RM6,556 in cash from the suspects aged between 18 to 32. One of the suspects is a jobless Chinese national.
Sarawak commissioner of police, Datuk Aidi Ismail at a press conference here today revealed the the Sibu Narcotics Investigation team conducted the raid and inspection at 9.30am on Dec 6.
The drugs seized from the suspects include syabu, Ecstacy and Eramin, in quantities enough to supply 1,493 addicts.
Urine tests on the six suspects, Aidi added, came back positive for drugs.
All suspects have been remanded for seven days until Dec 14.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging if convicted.
Separately, Aidi said the police had also seized two parcels with 1,100gm of Syabu and 2,000gm of Ganja from a courier company in Jalan Tun Abang Hj Openg at 1.30pm on Dec 7.
The drugs have a market value of RM55,000.
“The two parcels had been at the courier company for two months. We have waited for two months for the recipient to collect them but nobody showed up,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin and Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit. — DayakDaily
