Sibu Chinese clan association wants to start offering Menu Rahmah meals

A Chinese clan association in Sibu hopes to implement Menu Rahmah soon.

SIBU, Feb 15: A Chinese clan association is in the midst of preparing Menu Rahmah meals, an initiative where people can enjoy lunch and dinner at RM5 per meal.

Sibu Coffeeshop and Restaurant Owners Association chairman Tong Ing Kok strongly believed that food operators here will follow suit once the association, which Tong said would like to remain anonymous for now, implements the meals.

He said most eateries here will support the initiative so that people can have their meal at an affordable price.

“Food operators here have no problem in implementing Menu Rahmah as food ingredients here are cheaper than elsewhere. Even before this initiative was introduced, a number of eateries have been selling economy rice at RM5,” said Tong today.

A typical meal here he said comprised of two meats, two vegetables and rice at RM5.

“The said association has approached us on the matter and we will working to assist them. There is also an eatery who is not our member selling Menu Rahmah at a cheaper price of RM4,” he added.

His association, he said, will also try to get Muslim stall operators to join so that there will be halal meals at that price as well.

“We can do this for a longer term as we can manage it at RM5 price. This is different from Peninsular Malaysia, where their nasi lemak is already RM5 but ours is cheaper,” he added. — DayakDaily
