SIBU, April 26: Sibu Coffeeshop and Restaurant Owners Association is offering special incentives to encourage food business operators to participate in the Menu Rahmah initiative.

Its chairman Tong Ing Kok said these incentives will be two boxes of 500 ml bottled drinking water and either two dozen 330gm bottles of soya sauce or 24 packs of cooking oil.

“We will give these items on a one-off basis to the operators offering take-away Menu Rahmah items costing RM5 and below. The bottled water is for customers. As for the operators, we will give them either cooking oil or soya sauce,” said Tong at a press conference here today.

He said so far there are only two outlets, one in Jalan Blacksmith and the other in Jalan Salim participating in the programme.

“We want to support this government initiative by providing incentives to the food operators. There are more than 700 eateries here. Of the number, 230 are our members,” he said.

When asked how long the incentive will be offered, he said it was hard to estimate it as the programme is still quite new here.

“We will monitor the situation and see how,”

“At RM5 or below, the operators can still make a little profit. I am not asking the government to help but it would be good if it could channel between RM20,000 to RM30,000 so that we can make the programme last longer,” he said.

Also present at the press conference were the association’s secretary-general Su Ngie Kee and treasurer Teng Lee Nieng. — DayakDaily
