SIBU, Feb 5: Sibu Municipal Council has decided to close the Central Market for one week from Feb 8 to 14 after 47 positive cases were reported in one-week involving council staff, traders and their family members.
Chairman Clarence Ting said today their decision was for the safety for the operators, staffs, patrons and the general public at large.
The multi-storey carpark which is adjacent to the central market will also be closed for the same period.
Ting said the council was acting on the directive issued by Sibu Divisional Health Office on Feb 5 under Section 18(1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious
Diseases Act 1998 so that the council could properly sanitize the premises and to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“Guided and act upon by the said directive given by Sibu Divisional Health Office, we seek the kind understanding and cooperation of all operators at the Sibu Central
Market and Multi-Storey Carpark Complex which are licensed/governed under the jurisdiction of Sibu Municipal Council to temporarily close their respective businesses
during the above-mentioned duration. This is an effort to assist in flattening the curve of pandemic during this difficult and challenging time,” he said.
Ting also called on all hawkers, stall operators, and the general public (especially those who have developed any Covid-19 related symptoms), to immediately undergo PCR swab tests at the nearest government clinic or at the drive-through swab test facility provided by the Health Ministry at the compound of the library.
The public is also reminded to follow the SOP guidelines issued by the State Disaster Management Committee from time to time.-DayakDaily
