Number of medical staff hit by Covid-19 spikes beyond 100, reaching 104

KUCHING, Feb 5: The number of Covid-19 cases among Sarawak medical staff since Jan 25, 2021 has gone beyond a hundred.

The tally went up to 104 as of this day when the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported another seven cases across various health facilities in the state.


Kapit registered most of three cases. Bintulu recorded one medical officer down with the Coronavirus while Sibu and Miri districts reported one each from their facilities.

Calculated from previous reports, there were at least 97 cumulative cases among healthcare providers as of yesterday (Feb 4).

On Jan 25, State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing revealed to DayakDaily reporters that there were in total 53 medical officers across four major hospitals in Sarawak infected with the dreaded disease.

The next day on Jan 26, there were five additional cases of Covid-19 identified among the medical groups across the state.

Three days later on Jan 29, SDMC reported nine new infections.

The figures continued to increase daily from then on with one new case on Jan 30, three on Jan 31, six on Feb 1, four each on Feb 2 and 3, and eight more yesterday (Feb 4).— DayakDaily
