KUCHING, Feb 18: The announcement made by the government to provide free vaccination for all including legal and illegal foreign workers is a good strategy to achieve total herd immunity quickly, said Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) Kuching branch chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok.
“On who should bear the cost of vaccination for foreign workers, I am of the view that most employers would welcome the announcement for free vaccination for all including legal and illegal foreign workers.
“This is more of medical rather than monetary consideration so that more can be vaccinated in the quickest time,” Sim said in a statement issued here today.
He added that it would be better to stick to the plan as announced by both Federal and State government that all vaccination are provided free for all to achieve herd immunity in the shortest time possible.
“This will save cost and time for most businesses during this poor economic time. The cost of vaccination could still be recovered from the tax these companies will pay eventually to the government,” he explained.
Sim asserted that the consideration to let employers to pay for the vaccination would imposed more hardship on small and medium companies, and would involve more cost of doing business during this difficult time.
“These employers have already borne some cost for the Covid-19 test before they resumed work from the initial lockdown. All these cost will be passed on their prices that will eventually effect the end users,” he said. — DayakDaily
