KUCHING, April 7: The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Excellence Awards and Annual Dinner is set to return on Aug 6 this year and all developers, be it members or non-members, are invited to send in their project submissions.

The much-anticipated event, to be officiated by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, will take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

Its organising chairman Dato Alex Ting said this year’s Sheda Excellence Awards will highlight the ‘Affordable Housing Development in Sarawak’ category, in keeping with the Sarawak government’s long-term plans to develop more affordable housing for the people.

“I hope the focus on affordable housing will inspire developers to demonstrate creativity and innovation in order to bridge development gaps and transform affordable housing into much sought-after property.

“This emphasis also complements the Sarawak government’s efforts to enable more Sarawakians to own houses,” he told a press conference for the launching of the Awards at the Sheda Kuching branch office here today.

He encouraged interested developers to apply, noting that there were categories for both Sheda members and non-members, ranging from landed to strata, residential to commercial developments, as well as master plans, institutional buildings, and showrooms.

The closing date for the submissions is May 20, 2022 (Friday).
Ting pointed out that the Awards will be assessed by a panel of entrusted Adjudicators comprising industry professionals, in line with Sheda’s commitment to a transparent, impartial, and effective adjudication process.

“We will only accept entries from all over Sarawak, so the adjudicators will go to the sites and fly to any participants who live outside of Kuching to look at their projects and evaluate them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sheda secretary-general who is the Annual Dinner organising chairperson Angie Kueh commented that the Annual Dinner is also a time to acknowledge and celebrate the successes of Sheda members, build working relationships, and boost the quality of the housing and real estate industry in Sarawak.

“The Premier of Sarawak has also graciously accepted our invitation to be the guest-of-honour for the dinner,” she said.

Kueh added that Sheda has always worked closely with the government to improve and raise awareness about the importance of building good quality houses, both in terms of design and delivery to the people, because it will be showcased as part of the landscape of what Kuching or Sarawak would be at the end of the day.

“Furthermore, there is another category in which we are interested and we will be writing to our members, with hope that non-members will join us. This is in line with our objectives of doing good for society. We hope that developers who are involved with a lot of corporate social responsibility (CSR) will be able to participate in the category called Sheda CSR Awards.

“We are hoping that companies that take CSR seriously and see CSR as a part of their core values will submit their information so that we can determine whether they are eligible for the CSR Award,” she urged.
