MIRI, Dec 22: Enforcement agencies stationed at Sungai Tujoh Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex have been told to submit proposals to address several challenges, including how on reducing long queues at the premises.
In making this call, Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin said, Sungai Tujoh ICQS needs to improve to address the long waits and to avoid recurring traffic congestion.
“The number of travellers from Brunei Darussalam is increasing so therefore, you must have a plan starting from now, so that we can do something next year… or otherwise we might face the same problem all over again…,” he pointed out.
Lee said this earlier today after attending a briefing with Immigration and Customs officers at the complex after receiving several complaints from travellers on the long waits at the complex while crossing the Sungai Tujoh border.
“The problem here are the traffic flow design…and I think that there is a need to extend Sungai Tujoh to address these issues,” Lee said, adding his ministry perhaps could do something on the traffic flow design part.
On the proposal to be submitted, Lee also requested the Immigration and Customs personnel at Sungai Tujoh to list down the problems that they are facing, including listing facilities in need of upgrading.
For the record, an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 vehicles pass through the Sungai Tujoh ICQS per day and this number can increase up to 7,000 vehicles per day during weekends and holiday periods. — DayakDaily
