KUCHING, March 8: Several roads around Kuching will be closed on March 11 at 4 pm to make way for the Siew San Teng Tua Pek Kong temple procession.
In a statement today, the Kuching Chinese Community Charitable Trust Board said the procession routes would be closed at 4 pm, and the participating team would depart from the temple at 4.30pm.
The routes of the procession start from Main Bazaar to Gambier Street, Market Street (open Air Market), Khoo Hun Yeang Street, Barrack Road, Pearl Road, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Carpenter Street, Ewe Hai Street, Wayang Street, Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Ban Hock, Jalan Pandungan, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, and back to the temple.
As such, the organiser appeals for cooperation from members of the public to avoid parking their vehicles along the procession routes.
According to the board, currently, 145 teams have registered to participate in the procession.
They also welcome the participation of the public and visitors, including tourists, in the triennial event to promote the harmonious multiracial environment in Sarawak.
For the record, Siew San Teng Tua Pek Kong Temple is believed to have been in existence before 1839. It is one of the oldest historic temples in Kuching City. — DayakDaily
