SIBU, Nov 13: Following Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) P211 Lanang candidate Wong Ching Yong’s pledge to donate his MP salary to five Chinese independent schools here if he wins in the 15th General Election (GE15), several individuals have also stepped forward to pledge to donate a combined total of RM50,000 a year to these schools.

“I received pledges from a naval architect, two lawyers from Kuala Lumpur, and a civil engineer from Kuala Lumpur. They pledged to put in RM50,000 per year in addition to my MP’s salary of RM16,000 per month,” said Wong in a press conference today.

The five schools are Catholic High School, Wong Nai Siong High School, Citizen High School, Thien Sing High School, and Guong Ming High School.

Wong added that he would also set up two educational funds amounting to RM600,000 per year to cater for the Bumiputera (RM300,000) and non-Bumiputera (RM300,000) communities.

He would also strive to fight for Sarawak to become Malaysia’s first autonomous administrative territory.

“This is crucial because we will have immediate control over all privileges proposed during the formation of MA63, such as education, public health, finance, taxation, land, fisheries, petroleum, and governmental posts.

“By then, we will no longer be affected by the political infightings in Peninsular Malaysia, and this will truly mean self-autonomy and freedom for all Sarawakians,” he said.

Wong truly believes that GPS is the only local ruling party qualified to represent the whole of Sarawak to negotiate for the best interests of all Sarawakians at the federal level.

“Other political parties, especially DAP (Democratic Action Party), do not have such qualification because DAP should not even be considered a local party as it has its roots in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said. — DayakDaily
