KUCHING, July 10: Sarawak must not depend on others and must instead rely on its own strength to progress, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking during a private dinner with village chiefs and community leaders (KMKK) from Sibu Division at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu tonight, he urged community leaders to safeguard unity and take responsibility for the State’s future.
“Some people always blame others. When things go wrong, they blame others. Do not blame others. We must look at ourselves.
“If we are weak, why are we weak? If we progress, we must also look at ourselves and ask how we managed to progress. This means we should not depend on others,” he said during the event which was broadcast live by TVS on Facebook.
Abang Johari further said Sarawak’s development depended on the commitment and cooperation of its own people, stressing that Sarawak could not rely entirely on external assistance.
“Sarawak cannot depend on others. Sarawak depends on Sarawak’s own strength. Only Sarawakians can manage Sarawak,” he added.
He said maintaining unity among Sarawakians was crucial as the State continued its development journey and pursued greater economic strength.
The Premier also reminded community leaders that their role was important in ensuring government policies and development directions reached the grassroots.
He said Sarawak’s progress required the collective effort of all levels of society, from leaders to communities, to ensure future generations could enjoy greater prosperity.
“I have told the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, ‘If Sarawak is strong, Malaysia is strong. If Sarawak is not strong, Malaysia is not strong,’” he said.
Abang Johari added that Sarawak’s strength must continue to contribute towards a more prosperous Malaysia and a stronger ASEAN region. — DayakDaily
