KUCHING, Aug 10: The Air Pollution Index (API) in Serian is nearing the ‘very unhealthy’ level as it recorded a reading of 180 as of 10am today.
Based on data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), an API reading between 201 and 300 is categorised as ‘very unhealthy’, while a reading between 101 and 200 is categorised as unhealthy.
In addition, Sibu has reached the unhealthy API reading of 158, joining Serian, Samarahan (163), Kuching (162), Mukah (156), Sarikei (154), Sri Aman (153), Bintulu (147), and Samalaju (142).
Meanwhile, Miri, ILP Miri, Limbang, and Kapit recorded moderate API readings of 95, 92, 81, and 73, respectively.
Overall, nine areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy API readings, while four recorded moderate readings.
This is an increase in the number of areas that recorded unhealthy API readings compared to Sunday’s (Aug 9) reading at 12pm.
Recently, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said that the State government is considering carrying out cloud seeding operations if haze conditions in the State continue to worsen. — DayakDaily
