KUCHING, Nov 25: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simoh proposed to the Department of Agriculture Kuching to expand coffee cultivation in the constituency.
According to Miro, the Serembu constituency currently has 6,800 Liberica coffee trees.
“After almost two years, it seems that it has produced unexpected results that benefited the local farmers.
“Therefore, we plan to expand coffee cultivation with more participants and the involvement of native customary rights (NCR) land owners,” said Miro in his debate on the Supply (2023) Bill, 2022, in the August house today.
He added it is expected that by 2025, there will be an estimated 50,000 coffee trees throughout the Serembu area.
Meanwhile, Miro highlighted the need to construct health clinics in Pekan Warisan Siniawan and Krokong.
He said both Health Clinics require a bigger and more comfortable space to accommodate the local population and should be equipped with the latest health facilities.
He pointed out that the current health clinic in Krokong is dilapidated and needs to be moved to a new location, which is constantly flooded during heavy rain.
“The same goes with the health clinic in Pekan Siniawan, which operates inside a small rented shop unit.
“The condition of the clinic being overcrowded and patients having to wait for their turn on the pavement of the shop to receive treatment is a daily situation that we can see in this clinic,” he added. — DayakDaily
