Senior citizen killed in hit-and-run at Jln Oya

SIBU, Jan 21: A 63-year old woman died in a hit-and-run accident at about 4pm today at Jalan Oya.

The victim is from Matu but was staying in Sibujaya. She worked as a bottle cleaner at a shop near the scene.

According to an eyewitness, the victim was crossing the road when a motorcycle ridden by a man knocked her down.

“After crashing into the victim, I saw that the motorcyclist fell down from his bike. He quickly got up and sped away,” said the woman.

She added that she could not see the registration plate of the motorcycle but remembered that it was a Yamaha LC135 motorcycle.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for
reckless driving.

This offence carries an imprisonment of between 2-10 years and a fine of between RM5,000 to RM20,000 upon conviction. — DayakDaily
