BINTANGOR, July 4: About 400 acres of land have been identified as potential areas for commercial crops from Nanga Bangkit, Sungai Sian to Muara Bunut here.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol has therefore called for the State government to approve the construction of roads in the area.

“We are still waiting for the government’s approval on a road project with a length of eight to 10 kilometres that connects six longhouses in Nanga Bangkit worth RM35 million.

“Another road project is towards Kampung Selemas, which will connect this area directly to the junction between Jalan Sibu to Tanjung Manis, which is about 5km-long, and JKR estimates the cost at RM45 million,” he said when attending a Ngiling Bidai 2022 ceremony at Rh Jawi Nanga Bangkit Sg Selidap, Rh James Berandah Muara Bunut and Sg Sian Bintangor Multipurpose Hall yesterday (July 3).

Abdullah, who is also Deputy Minister for Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas, further hoped that the area would be equipped with good Internet coverage to facilitate student learning.

The Gawai programme tour for the Semop constituency was held at 12 destinations for four days involving the community from 50 longhouses.

In each ceremony, Abdullah presented contributions to 50 longhouses’ village development and security committees (JKKKs) with a total allocation of RM84,100.

Also present were Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab and Abdullah’s wife, Datin Nora Ashikin Ibrahim. — DayakDaily
