KUCHING, Apr 10: The federal government has agreed to begin a gradual and controlled opening of selected sectors to restart the economy.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today that a Special Cabinet Committee chaired by Senior Ministers of International Trade and Industry as well as Defence has been formed to examine and determine the selected economic sectors to be reopened in stages.

“I understand that our country’s economy has been affected due to the restriction measures imposed on industrial, manufacturing and business activities during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

“As such, the government has agreed that several chosen economic sectors will be reopened in stages with stringent health and movement restriction guidelines,” he said when addressing the nation on the MCO today.

He added that the list of selected sectors allowed to be opened will be announced in due time.

Muhyiddin, however, emphasised that the opening of the selected sectors of economy does not mean that the measures under the MCO will be relaxed.

“The order is still being enforced and all instructions and measures issued by the authorities must continue to be complied with.

“If there are operators, factories or companies that violate the rules, the government will withdraw the permission,” he warned.—DayakDaily
