KUCHING, Oct 29: The federal government has signed a confidence-and-supply agreement (CSA) with 13 MPs, including opposition lawmakers, in exchange for their support for Budget 2027 and two major institutional reforms.

According to The Edge Malaysia, the agreement was signed today (Oct 29) by former prime minister and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and 11 other MPs.

The report stated that the additional backing could bring the number of MPs supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to 159, surpassing the two-thirds majority needed to pass constitutional amendments, provided all relevant MPs vote in favour.

The agreement could also give Anwar greater political room as calls grow from Barisan Nasional (BN) for an early general election.

Under the agreement, the 13 MPs have pledged to back Budget 2027 and key institutional changes, including a two-term limit for the prime minister and the separation of the attorney general’s powers. In exchange, they will receive constituency development funds on par to those allocated to government MPs.

Muhyiddin was joined by five other Bersatu MPs: party vice-president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Datuk Ali Biju (Saratok), Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi), Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Datuk Azman Nasrudin (Padang Serai). Bersatu secretary general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was not a signatory to the agreement.

Besides Syed Saddiq, six other independent MPs who had previously declared their support for Anwar’s unity government also signed the agreement which include Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof signed the agreement on behalf of the government. Also present at the signing ceremony were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Anwar’s senior political adviser Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. – DayakDaily
