KUCHING, Sept 30: Malaysia will once again send a strong candidate to the annual Miss Grand International 2022 from Oct 4 until 25, to be held in Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia, respectively.
Charissa Chong, Miss Grand Malaysia 2022, born and raised in Subang Jaya, Selangor, earned the right to represent the country after winning the national title in Sabah earlier last month, according to a media release today.
The mass communication graduate is a well-known content creator, having worked with multiple leading brands coupled with being a host, model, and spokesperson. Chong taught herself to play the guitar and piano and is also a fitness enthusiast.
Winning Miss Grand Malaysia 2022 is an opportunity for Chong to continue pursuing her advocacy for the visually impaired and becoming the voice in breaking the stigma and stopping discrimination against people with disabilities.
This cause is very close to Chong as she grew up with her mother, who became blind at a stage in life and saw her face challenges and discrimination.
With her steady profile, Chong will attempt to continue Malaysia’s good track record at the Miss Grand International pageant, where the previous two representatives, Jasebel Robert (2020, Top 10 and Miss Popular Vote winner) and Lishalinny Kanaran (2021, Top 20 and Best National Costume winner) had performed exceptionally.
Chong is setting her sight on the Golden Crown with a strategy to be present, genuine and showcasing herself. The experience and knowledge gained throughout the years in competing at various pageantries give Charissa the confidence and versatility to improvise and perform when it matters.
