SELANGAU, Nov 9: The experience from the 14th General Election (GE14) should be a lesson for people in P214 Selangau as the parliamentary constituency has been abandoned without any development while its incumbent Baru Bian from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) –  who has since joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) following the collapse of Pakatan Harapan (PH) – has left to contest in Lawas.

Conveying this message, Deputy Minister of Port Development Dato Majang Renggi urged the people of Selangau to continue supporting Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as was shown in the 12th State Election.

“Take GE14 as a lesson. When he (Baru) won, not only was Selangau abandoned, but the representative has now moved to contest in Lawas parliamentary seay without bringing any development to Selangau,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today.

Majang, who is also Samalaju assemblyman, was with GPS candidate for Selangau Edwin Banta when addressing the Leaders with People programme at Rh Saga in Kampung Melinau here on Tuesday.

He emphasised that GPS contesting in 31 parliamentary seats in the coming 15th General Election (GE15) is to strengthen efforts to fight for Sarawak’s rights in Parliament.

“Sarawak has succeeded in gaining several matters under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“But GPS winning all 31 seats in GE15 will certainly give the Sarawak coalition a much stronger and louder voice to ease and firmly negotiate for more matters yet to be fulfilled,” he said.

GE15, Majang continued, is very important for GPS to ensure GPS’ voice will be heard in Parliament.

On a separate occasion, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) senior vice president Datuk John Sikie Tayai pointed out that Edwin is the right candidate for Selangau.

“He is a person with unwavering loyalty to the party. Even though he was not nominated in the last State Election and GE14, he was not discouraged.

“He continued to show loyalty to the party as well as continue to serve the community,” he said when speaking at GPS Selangau Machinery launching ceremony at Rh John Antieng in Pasai Song on Monday.

He also urged community leaders and village chieftains to encourage people to go out and vote on Nov 19.
