Sedar denies supporting independence for Sarawak agenda

Dato Othman Abdillah

KUCHING, June 12: Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) reiterates that it does not support the independence for Sarawak agenda and refutes recent reports to the contrary that have appeared in local print and online news media.

According to Sedar president Dato Othman Abdillah in a press statement issued today, the party has all along stated that its principle struggle is to gain the best livelihood for all Sarawakians within the Federation of Malaysia and that stand has not changed.

“The electoral pact proposed to be formed by the Sarawak-based opposition does not require the parties to accept each other’s core policies for the governance of Sarawak.

“The objective and goal of the Sarawak opposition electoral pact as has been aired in recent weeks is to ensure a one-to-one contest in all 31 Sarawak parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 15th General Election (PRU15),” he said.

Othman went on to say that the parties will formulate a united approach towards standing up for Sarawak at the federation level.

“The parties believe that they can give a fearless and more effective representation in the Malaysian Parliament to regain and protect Sarawak’s interest for the sake of the Sarawak people’s future.

“There are many issues that must be resolved before the parties can fully back the proposed pact agreement.

“We are convinced that the parties will put any differences aside to make this pact happen and urge Sarawakians to give it their full support to stop the bullying of Sarawak at the federal level,” he added. — DayakDaily
