KUCHING, May 21: A second Kenyalang Park cluster involving a workplace in a shopping centre here has been declared today, with 14 confirmed Covid-19 cases while contact tracing is still ongoing.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said a total of 44 individuals were screened where 14 cases tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case while another 30 cases returned negative results.

“Contact tracing pertaining to this cluster is still ongoing.

“All cases who were found positive for Covid-19 have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Kuching and Serian Quarantine and Treatment Centre for Covid-19 (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes,” it said in a statement today.

Just yesterday (May 20), a Kenyalang Park Cluster infecting four families at Jalan Kenyalang Park reported 27 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian later on the same day, in a social media post, revealed that the Kenyalang Park Cluster was actually first detected at a wet market last week where the market had subsequently closed down twice with a three-day period each time.

In today’s SDMC reports, the figures of the Kenyalang Park Cluster remained the same with no increase of positive cases, negative cases or number of samples awaiting laboratory test results.

Meanwhile, the committee also reported the expiration of four clusters in Sarawak namely the Bulatan Aman Cluster in Sibu, Kampung Binyu Cluster and Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster in Kuching, and Jalan Bintulu-Sibu Cluster in Tatau.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak stands at 80 as of today where 11 of them registered a total increase of 51 new cases while the remaining 69 clusters did not. — DayakDaily
