Sibu, Bintulu sees triple-digit cases again as Sarawak records 612 new cases

KUCHING, May 21: Sibu and Bintulu registered triple-digit cases again for the second consecutive day as Sarawak reported 612 new Covid-19 cases today.

A total of 369 cases or 60.29 per cent mainly came from Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Kuching.


The State also recorded eight new fatalities on the same day, bringing the state’s death toll to 247.

Of the total positive cases, Sibu reported 108 cases, followed by Bintulu (103), Miri (86), Kuching (72), Kapit (40), Sarikei (30), Kanowit (26), Mukah (25), Selangau (17), Belaga (14), Samarahan (11), Saratok (10), Pusa (9), Subis (9), Sebauh (8), Sri Aman (7), Pakan (7), Tatau (6), Bukit Mabong (5), Betong (5), Serian (4), Meradong (3), Asajaya (2), Dalat (1), Lawas (1), Tebedu (1), Song (1) and Daro (1).

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the State to 40,871.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 77 out of 621 cases were symptomatic.

Additionally, 408 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

“In short, 430 new cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 81 detected from other screenings in health facilities, 51 from screening of symptomatic individuals, and 50 were individuals linked to active clusters,” it said.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 480 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 34,022 or 83.24 per cent.

SDMC added that there were 6,510 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

The committee also reported 612 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases with none awaiting laboratory results. — DayakDaily
