KUCHING, March 5: State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has just gotten his first dose of Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine today.

Photos of him taking the shot were posted on SDMC’s Facebook page earlier today, and one of them showed a cheerful Deputy Chief Minister posing a peace hand gesture in front of the camera while carrying the ‘Saya telah divaksin’ signage.

When Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and other Deputy Chief Ministers received their first doses of the vaccines on Feb 26, Uggah did not take the shot due to health reasons.

Just months earlier around November 2020, he underwent heart surgery and was forced to take weeks of medical leave while Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing took his place as acting SDMC chairman.

“Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, chairman of SDMC has received his first dose of Covid-19 vaccine today.

“This vaccination programme is critical in our fight to protect themselves and our loved ones from Covid-19, so let’s play our roles as responsible citizens and sign up now,” SDMC wrote in its Facebook post today.

In the reports on Covid-19 updates today, the committee said a total of 11,659 vaccines injections have been given out as of March 4, since the beginning of the immunisation programme on Feb 26.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip has also got his first jab of the vaccination at Kota Samarahan Heart Centre.

He said, in a statement today, that it was an initiative to support the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme launched on Feb 24 on the federal level and later on Feb 26 on the state level.

Thus, he urged and invited the public to register themselves as vaccine recipients immediately through the MySejahtera application as one of the efforts to protect themselves and their family members.

“Let us together respond to the government’s call to curb the Covid-19 epidemic from spreading further,” said Talib.—DayakDaily
