Two shop owners breach Covid-19 SOP, fined RM1,000

SIBU, March 5: After almost a year of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses should be by now be complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines.

However, two shop owners in a shopping complex at Jalan Salim here were caught without a temperature scanner and MySejahtera code.

They were fined RM1,000 each.


Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said an integrated SOP monitoring team conducted a check on three supermarket premises at Jalan Salim and Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
at 1.30pm on March 4.

“As a result of the inspection, two shop owners in a supermarket were found without a body temperature scanner and MySejahtera code,” he said.

A 34-year old shoe shop owner and a 30-year old fashion accessories shop owner admitted to the offence under Section 14 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

Meanwhile, Sibu Municipal Council chairman, Clarence Ting said they would revoke the license of the two shop owners if there was advice from the police.

“The two shop owners can operate as usual but they need to provide the equipment and to strictly follow the SOP. They must take initiative to provide the SOP or risk more fines from the police,” he added. -DayakDaily
