SDGA hopes education, career fair will futureproof youth with necessary skills, opportunities

KUCHING, Sept 25: The Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) Education and Career Fair 2022 aims to encourage young Sarawakians to pursue tertiary education in order to enter the workforce with the necessary qualifications and knowledge or to become job creators themselves in the future.

SDGA president Gary Ningkan stated this yesterday (Sept 25) at the SDGA Education and Career Fair 2022, which was held at a hotel here.

“Today’s programme marks the second education fair held by SDGA and the first one incorporating a career fair.

“Through today’s education and career fair, we hope to encourage young Sarawakians to further pursue tertiary education to equip themselves with the right qualifications and knowledge entering the workforce or to become job creators themselves in future,” Gary said.

He noted that as Sarawak strives to become a developed and high-income nation by 2030, everyone must be equipped with the necessary knowledge and understanding of future technology.

He also highlighted that SDGA hopes to contribute to the career fair by creating a platform where job seekers can meet with potential employers in person and hand in their resumes, curriculum vitae (CVs), and certificates for job applications.

“We truly want to assist local talent find the right job placement for their work profile and educational background.

“With the combination of an education fair and a career fair, we hope to give students and employers a chance to meet one another, establish professional relationships, and discuss potential job and/or internship opportunities,” he added.

Gary also revealed that SDGA was founded in 2001 and currently has over 2,000 members.

“The association’s primary focus has always been to promote the importance of education, to ensure human capital development amongst the community, and to become a platform for members to network and engage with communities, ministries, agencies, and industry players,” he remarked.

Also present was Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who officiated at the SDGA Education and Career Fair 2022. — DayakDaily
