KUCHING, June 16: A local man who fell victim to an attempted online scam has been subjected to ongoing harassment and online terrorism after rejecting the scammer’s advances.

According to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, on June 2, the victim, only known as ‘Kenny’, was contacted via WhatsApp by an individual offering a loan service. But after a few exchanges, Kenny realised that it was a scam and ceased communication.

However, the scammer managed to obtain Kenny’s contact list—without it being shared—and not only continued to harass him, but also his wife, parents, in-laws, and siblings. The scammer even used different numbers to carry out the harassment.

“In addition, the scammer also posted Kenny’s IC on two Facebook pages, 古晋吹水站 and 诗巫吹水站 , making false accusations against him.

“Kenny suspected that his phone was hacked by the scammer when they were exchanging WhatsApp messages. The constant harassment by the scammer against his relatives is now causing him a lot of embarrassment and stress.

“He has no choice but to resort to reporting to the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), hoping that the authorities can help to track down the scammer and stop the harassment,” said Chong, who is also Padungan assemblyman.

Chong also said that he has helped Kenny draft a complaint to the MCMC on the harassment and urged the authorities to act quickly and effectively. — DayakDaily
