SBC to host webinar on commercialising herbal R&D for medicinal claims on June 30

SBC's webinar on 'Herbal Research and Development for Medicinal Claims' will be delivered by Prof Dr Jamia Azdina Jamal on June 30, 2022, 10am via Zoom.

KUCHING, June 29: Discover modern and innovative applications used to evaluate the quality, safety, and efficacy of herbal products in order to establish the authenticity of herbal products prior to commercialisation during the ‘Herbal Research and Development for Medicinal Claims’ webinar via Zoom on June 30, 2022, hosted by Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC).

According to a press release from SBC, the webinar will be led by Prof Dr Jamia Azdina Jamal of the Drug Herbal Research Centre, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Centre for IDEA.

“Dr Jamia will also shed light on the scientific rationale for benefit and risk analysis, as well as the regulatory approval process, especially for herbal medicines,” SBC stated.


Dr Jamia is the Director of the Centre for IDEA-UKM and a registered pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia.

“Aside from that, she is the Vice President of the Malaysian Natural Product Society (MNPS), a member of the Herbal Research Grant Scheme (HRGS) technical committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) Malaysia, and a member of the main and technical committees for the Malaysian Herbal Monograph (MHM) of the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia.

“Her areas of expertise are Pharmacognosy (Herbal Analysis and Standardisation) and Pharmaceutical (Analysis and Quality Control),” SBC added.
