KUCHING, April 13: Sarawak’s traffic park facilities will be revitalised in an effort to raise the younger generation’s awareness on road safety issues.

According to a TVS news report, Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that various efforts will be made, including upgrading the infrastructure in the area for safety purposes and facilitating the organisation of related activities.

Additionally, he disclosed that the initiative was discussed with the Sarawak Road Safety Council (MKJR).

“Each year, MKJR conducts road safety campaigns, particularly during holidays like Hari Raya, Hari Gawai, Chinese New Year, and Christmas. We conduct this campaign annually, but the results are barely noticeable.

“The important thing is the impact on road users, especially the young; we need to train and educate them,” he said during a visit to the traffic park in Kampung Seberang Sarikei in Sarikei on Wednesday (Apr 12).

In fact, he pointed out, Sarawak currently has six traffic parks that are fully utilised for the organisation of road safety education programmes.

“This traffic park is designed specifically for the hosting of traffic games. Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri each have one traffic park.”

“What I want to see is whether the traffic park can still be used or not, if it can still be used, we can upgrade and improve it.

“I have visited the traffic parks at MBKS Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, and Sarikei, and all of them are still there and can still be used,” he added. — DayakDaily
