KUCHING, July 28: Sarawak’s model of peaceful multi-religious and multi-racial coexistence has drawn praise from leaders of the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM), who commended the State’s inclusive approach and efforts in fostering mutual respect among diverse faith communities.
According to a statement, the CFM leadership conveyed their appreciation during a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, Petra Jaya, today, describing the engagement as cordial and constructive.
Led by CFM chairman Rev Dr Eu Hong Seng, the delegation highlighted Sarawak’s approach to religious harmony, as well as the role of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) in supporting non-Islamic religious communities and promoting understanding among people of different faiths.
The meeting also provided an avenue for both sides to exchange views on Sarawak’s development progress, religious harmony and issues of mutual interest.
The CFM delegation commended Abang Johari’s progressive vision and strong leadership, noting that these had contributed significantly to Sarawak’s socio-economic advancement and its emergence as one of Malaysia’s leading economies.
Discussions also touched on current national developments and the positive role Sarawak could continue to play in strengthening unity, stability and national progress.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment between the Sarawak government and Christian communities to maintain continuous dialogue on interfaith understanding, national harmony and community development.
The CFM leaders, who were in Kuching for their Executive Committee meeting, also praised Sarawak’s culture of inclusiveness, acceptance and mutual respect, saying the State’s experience could serve as an example for greater unity across Malaysia.
Also present during the meeting were CFM vice-chairman Archbishop Julian Leow Beng Kim and Bishop Datuk Danald Jute; assistant honorary treasurer Archbishop Dato Simon Poh; executive secretary Rev Andy Chi Cheng Khee; as well as representatives from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, the Council of Churches of Malaysia and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, together with other CFM Executive Committee members.
The delegation expressed hope that Sarawak’s example of harmony and cooperation among different communities would continue to inspire efforts towards a more united Malaysia. — DayakDaily
