KUCHING, June 17: Sarawak recorded an encouraging financial performance in the first quarter of 2025, laying a solid foundation for continued economic progress, with ongoing and upcoming bridge projects poised to open a new chapter in the State’s inclusive growth, particularly in rural development.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the strong start to the year reflects the State government’s sound fiscal management and strategic development planning.

“I believe our performance in the first quarter of 2025 has been quite good, including our financial standing.

“We hope to maintain this consistency in the next three quarters, which will certainly give us the advantage needed to accelerate development, especially in rural areas,” he said when officiating the Gawai Dayak celebration organised by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUNS) Complex today.

Abang Johari noted that the Sarawak’s stable financial position will strengthen its ability to implement development initiatives, particularly in rural regions that require sustained attention and investment.

He also underscored the significance of infrastructure projects currently underway, particularly the construction of bridges across the State, as major enablers of rural economic activity.

“These bridges are now coming to fruition,” he said, noting the active role played by Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Datuk Amar Douglas is now ‘harvesting the fruits’ of these bridge developments. Our officers are also on the ground because many of these bridges are completed, opening a new chapter in our inclusive economic growth, especially in rural development,” he added.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, cabinet ministers and Sarawak Attorney-General Dato Sri Saferi Ali were among the distinguished guests present. — DayakDaily
