Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 cases down to 1,727 today, 2 deaths including BID

KUCHING, March 3: The statistics for new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak fell to 1,727 today with two fatalities reported in Kapit and Mukah, with one being a brought-in-dead (BID) case.

The latest figures have pushed the overall State Covid-19 tally to 272,142 and death toll to 1,635.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) daily update on the Covid-19 situation in the State, five districts namely Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Samarahan recorded triple-digit cases.


Kuching continues to top the list with 584 cases, followed by Miri (281), Sibu (193), Bintulu (115) and Samarahan (100).

Fithteen districts saw a double-digit increase in cases, namely Serian (68); Bau (54); Sarikei (47); Limbang (33); Kanowit (27); Sri Aman and Lawas (21 each); Mukah and Matu (20 each); Kabong and Dalat (12 each); Betong (11); while Saratok, Marudi and Daro have 10 cases each.

A total 18 districts registered single digit cases – Subis (9); Belaga (8); Asajaya (7); Kapit (6); Lundu and Meradong (5 each); Pakan, Julau, Tebedu, Sebauh and Tatau (4 each); Simunjan, Song, Selangau, Pusa and Telang Usan (3 each); Lubok Antu (2), while Beluru has one case.

Of the new cases, there are 13 in severe condition with 12 classified under Category 4 with pneumonia and requiring oxygen therapy, and one under Category 5 with pneumonia and requiring ventilator support.

There are 1,051 cases classified under Category 2 with mild symptoms and 663 cases under Category 1 with no symptoms.

As for the Covid-19 death reported in Kapit, it involved a 72-year-old man with morbidities of hypertension, dyslipidemia and chronic kidney disease who passed away at Kapit Hospital on March 7.

For the BID case transferred to the Mukah Hospital on March 8, it involved a 60-year-old woman with morbidities of hypertension, diabetes and cancer.

Meanwhile, the police have issued 11 compounds in Kuching in the past 24 hours for various violations of standard operating procedures (SOP).

Ten compounds were issued for failure to check in at premises with the MySejahtera app and one for failure to wear face masks. — DayakDaily
