Sarawakians urged to commit to restricted movement order to curb Covid-19

KUCHING, March 18: The State Disaster Management Committee is urging the public to make continued efforts and commitments over the next 13 days in complying with the Movement Control Order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was very thankful that most Sarawakians have shown good discipline and cooperation to comply with the order.

“They need to cooperate with the government and be fully committed to eradicate Covid-19,” he reminded in a statement today.

He reiterated that it was vital that the public observe this order.

“Public compliance to the guidelines given by the Health Ministry, like practising the highest standard of personal hygiene, social distancing and home quarantine are the key factors to control the spread and transmission of Covid-19.

“So let us make the sacrifices to ensure the objective to curb the spread of Covid-19 will be achieved,” he stressed

Uggah added that Sarawak needs to learn from countries like China, Singapore and South Korea, where the discipline and cooperation of their population with the authorities had led to success in containing the spread.

On the other hand, he noted, in countries where there was a lack of the preventative measures, including preparations by people and the government, the number of Covid-19 cases had escalated uncontrollably.

“Therefore, let us all cooperate. It is very pertinent that we all work together in fighting this common enemy,” he added.
